For over sixty years, since 1946, Camp Lutherhaven has served children, youth, adults, families, congregations and communities from around the Northwest and across the nation, nurturing Christ-centered faith with year-round programs that equip leaders, strengthen communities and celebrate God’s marvelous creation. Located on Lake Coeur d'Alene in north Idaho, Camp Lutherhaven was founded by a handful of visionaries from five historic Lutheran denominations as a summer youth and family camp for returning veterans of WW II and Inland Northwest families. Lutherhaven Ministries is now a year-round, multi-faceted organization that serves over 13,000 people each year from Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and around the nation in Christian camp, outdoor education, retreat and adventure-based settings. A decade ago, Lutherhaven Ministries was awarded the Special Use Permit to operate Shoshone Base Camp, a historic site on the Idaho-Montana border operated by the U.S. Forest Service for half a century as a work camp and training center for firefighters until its closure in 1983. Shoshone Base Camp is a true mountain retreat, located at the western edge of the ruggedly famous Bitterroot Mountains on the beautiful North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River. Shoshone Base Camp is a rare jewel! The facility is comprised of over 32 acres surrounded by the 3.5 million acre Idaho Panhandle National Forest. Thirteen buildings include dormitory-style lodging for 80, three sizeable guest houses for 60, a dining hall, multiple meeting spaces and horse stables. Programming ranges from children’s, youth and family camps to church retreats to outdoor environmental education to our new Idaho Servant Adventures for teens and adults that brings more than 720 teens to Shoshone this summer alone for community service and outreach. Wilderness adventure abounds, literally out the back door: mountain hikes, nationally-renowned mountain biking, inner-tubing the river, rock climbing, fly fishing and white water rafting take place from the comfort of Shoshone’s home-style camp environment. And thanks, Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church, for your continuing faithful support of Lutherhaven Ministries! More information can be accessed at www.lutherhaven.com
