Sammamish Hills Lutheran
Preschool, a non-profit preschool located on the Sammamish Plateau, is
seeking a lead teacher for our Monday/Wednesday 3’s Class and our
Tuesday/Thursday Older 2’s Class to begin late August 2011. This is
one position, teaching two classes.
The goal of these classes is to give students an
opportunity to grow and mature in a safe and loving environment focusing
on their social, emotional, spiritual, academic and physical
development. Sammamish Hills Lutheran Preschool is well established
with a commitment to excellent teachers, small class sizes,
developmentally appropriate curriculum and teaching about the love of
Jesus.
SHLP is a 9 month
preschool (Sept.-May). This position will require a time commitment of
about 13 hours per week (3.5 hours per day Monday and Wednesday mornings
and 3 hours per day Tuesday and Thursday mornings) plus additional paid
monthly preparation time.
Job Summary
Provide a loving and nurturing environment that is safe, comfortable
and healthy in order to enhance children’s growth and development that
is age appropriate.
Qualifications and
Experience
A. Shall have one of the
following:
- BA or BS degree in
Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related field
- or AA in Early
Childhood Education (or equivalent) from accredited college
- or have met
Elementary Teacher certification or Early Childhood Education
Certification requirements
- or have extensive
experience in early childhood education, pursuing one of the above
AND
B. Experience:
- Have prior teaching
experience in a preschool classroom setting working with preschool
age children (3-5 years old)
- Committed to
continued professional growth through attendance in STARS course
work, conferences, etc.
AND
C. Other Qualifications:
- Active membership in
a Christian church
- Live within a 20 mile
radius of Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church
Major Responsibilities
The teacher provides a model for working with young children and
encourages the growth of each child. The teacher will:
- Plan curriculum and
establish an intentional environment designed to engage young
children.
- Plan a variety of
hands-on experiences based on children's needs and interest
- Support the Christian
environment of Sammamish Hills Lutheran Preschool.
- Develop positive
relationships with the children and their families.
- Make suggestions to
parents to increase their skills with the children.
- Participate in
organizational meetings including monthly staff meetings.
- Attend workshops and
classes to keep abreast of current research and practices in Early
Childhood Education.
- Work with the
director and fellow teachers to support all of the preschool’s
programs and policies.
- Attend preschool
“social” events such as: Back to School BBQ, Pumpkin Carving Night,
Christmas Program, Spring Celebration etc.
- Set-up and clean-up
of preschool space, heavy lifting required.
Conditions for Employment
Pass background check by the Washington State Patrol. Maintain
current CPR/First Aid training and STARS certification.
Compensation
$13-18 will be determined depending on experience. Paid months are
from the end of August to late May. There are no benefits offered with
this part-time position. Paid continuing education is included plus
additional paid monthly preparation time.
