BAPTISM at Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church…

The sacraments of Holy Baptism and Communion are at the heart of our worship life.  Through our worship practice, we hope to lead seekers to “the welcoming waters of baptism, the newly initiated to discipleship, disciples to a fuller participation in the body of Christ, with the body of Christ extending itself in to the world, and all the baptized rediscovering the treasures of returning to their baptism again and again.”*

The procedure for setting up a date for baptism includes the following:

  1.  As the baptismal vows include active participation in the Christian church, the pastor will need to be informed as to the congregation the newly baptized will be nurtured by in their faith.  If the congregation is not Sammamish Hills, the preferred option is to have the baptism performed at the congregation you’ll be attending.

  2. Contact Pastor Will Sappington either by email (prwill@shlc.org) or phone (425-392-7799 x25) and he’ll assist in setting the date and time.

  3. Baptisms are not held on every Sunday and often there are multiple requests so please coordinate dates with Pr. Will.

  4. Sponsors need to be recruited and identified to the church office.  It is expected that baptismal sponsors will be active members of a Christian church, as their vows entail fulfilling the vows of the parent(s) if the parent(s) are incapacitated.

  5. In the event of an infant or child, parents and sponsors are expected to meet for a period of instruction with the baptizing pastor prior to the day of baptism.  If an adult is to be baptized, the person to be baptized and their sponsors are expected to meet with the baptizing pastor for instruction prior to the day of baptism.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Pr. Will (prwill@shlc.org).
