"There is
a time when every person who encounters Jesus, who
believes Jesus is the Son of God, decides that they will
spend their life following him." ~Don Miller
Ministry Team
Members: High School Youth
As an outreach
activity of Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church, the High
School Youth is responsible for a two-mile stretch of
Sahalee Blvd. just north of the Sammamish Library.
Volunteers can help clean the area, for the benefit of
the thousands of people who drive by each day. The group
welcomes youth, families and adults to help with the
maintenance of the area.

The annual SHLC
Backpack Drive takes place each summer and supports
families in need in our community through Hopelink
in Redmond and and the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank.
The Christmas Gift
Drive Team organizes the gathering of gifts and
donations for several different charity groups in the
Issaquah area. Individuals and families in the SHLC
donated a record number of over 600 gifts in 2006.
This ministry
provides birthday cakes and cards for students at Echo
Glen, a Washington State Juvenile Reform School.
Volunteers bake and deliver many cakes, to the delight
of the young people. Staff members at the school tell us
that these cakes are very important to each child and
may be the first birthday cakes some children have ever
received.

The mission of Faith
in Action is to provide a network of trained volunteers
who provide assistance, education, referral and support
for the vulnerable and elderly of the Greater Issaquah,
Sammamish Plateau, and Snoqualmie Valley areas. We
strive to help people maintain their sense of dignity
and self-worth. A side benefit is to strengthen the
community by increasing volunteerism.
If you know of
someone in need or who would like to volunteer, please
call us at 425.391.2817 or email us at
faithinaction@providence.org.
The global mission
of Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church is to build-up and to
sustain a congregational ministry of all members who are
claimed, called and sent to share the Gospel of Jesus
Christ to all people, through proclamation, witness and
works of love here in our community and into the world.

Each month at
Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church, a different ministry is
presented to church members through speakers and/or
written information. Individuals are able to contribute
as much or as little to these ministries as they choose.
Pew envelopes are available for members to designate
their giving to the Ministry of the Month.
By donating to
these ministries via Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church,
individuals act collectively as the body of Christ to
support the ministries.
Ministries of the
Month have included: The Compass Center, Campus
Ministry- UW, Campus Ministry WWU, Trinity Lutheran
College, Habitat for Humanity Eastside, Luzhou Church,
Backpacks - Issaquah Food Bank, Backpacks - Hopelink,

Volunteers
The Mission
Quilters meet in the Fellowship Hall at Our Savior
Lutheran Church in Issaquah on Wednesday mornings from
9:30 am - Noon to assemble quilts for Lutheran World
Relief. The tops have been made at the homes of a few
volunteers so that our job is to put the back, batting,
and top together. Next we tie with yarn knots to keep
the layers together and sew around the edge to finish
the quilt.
We send shipments
of quilts each year in a boxcar to Baltimore. There they
are put into bales and are ready to be shipped overseas
to victims of disasters. Every year Lutheran World
Relief distributes 100's of thousands of these quilts. A
few are donated each year to other local needs that
arise.
The team would
greatly appreciate donations of the following supplies:
thread, yarn, old blankets and bedspreads, quilt
batting, new or reusable scraps of fabric, sheets, and
yardage.
Our group takes
great joy in making these quilts for the needy by
creating something wonderful out of nothing.

In 2006 Sammamish
Hill Lutheran Church became a Covenant Church of Bread
for the World. SHLC made a commitment to integrate
hunger concerns into the life of the congregation, to
learn more about hunger, pray for hungry people, and
take action to end hunger through advocacy.
The Team maintains
a bulletin board in the Narthex posting Action Alerts to
urge congregational members to get involved in justice
issues at the local, state and national level and shows
monthly films on justice issues at the church each
month.
If you would like
to join the Witness for Justice Team, come to our
monthly meetings, held the second Friday of each month
at 10 am at the Starbucks at the QFC in Pine Lake Shopping Center,
or contact Linda Hines
shlcministries@yahoo.com for more information.

Apartment 404 at the Family Village is supplied and kept up-to-date by Sammamish
Hills Lutheran Church. Families who live in the apartments come from
shelters or from their cars, and they can stay for 12-24 months while they
prepare for a job that will give them independence and allow them to live on
their own.
When a family
moves out of the SHLC sponsored apartment at the
Village, the team prepares it for a new family. This
includes cleaning and restocking everything including
linens, cleaning supplies, food and personal items.
The team has also
hosted a community dinner for 80 residents and put new
books into the hands of 45 children. Each new apartment
resident also received a "Welcome Home" basket
containing a crock pot, recipe book for the crock pot
and ingredients for two kinds of soup to make in the
crock pot.
